Frigate assigned to escort Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry

The navy has assigned the frigate HTMS Kraburi to protect the Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry, which made its first trip on Thursday after rough seas delayed the unofficial launch on Jan 1.

The frigate was already deployed in the upper part of the Gulf of Thailand, a statement by the navy said. It was assigned work with the Marine Department to ensure maritime security, especially for the Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry service.

HTMS Kraburi would escort and remain in constant contact with the ferries of the Royal Passenger Liner Co Ltd, the operator of the two-hour trip between the two popular tourist destinations.

The service launched unofficially on Jan 1, with free passage offered until Jan 15 and the official opening set for Jan 12. However, the first run was delayed by rough seas in the Gulf, until Thursday, Jan 5.

The company is currently using only one of its three ferries, offering one daily return trip. It will be docked on Jan 11 for maintenance and checks ahead of the official launch the following day.

Departure time is set at 8.30am and the return trip at 3pm. The ferry is scheduled to depart Hua Hin for Pattaya return from Jan 7 to 10 and from Pattaya to Hua Hin return on Jan 13 to15.

After the fare-free period, the basic ticket cost will be 1,250 baht a trip per head.

The ferry company has bought three 38-metre long ferries from China, each capable of carrying 339 passengers. Each ferry has 286 seats on the first deck, with 44 business class seats on the upper deck and two VIP rooms. Prices for the upper deck have not been announced. There is a crew of eight. The ferries can travel at up to 27 knots, according to the company.

1. Trellis.

Installing a trellis on your rooftop is a relatively inexpensive way to create a space in which to receive and entertain your guests for plenty of happy moments. Attach some lights or lamps onto the trellis and you will create a wonderful ambiance to be enjoyed. The trellis is also a great way to block out the sunlight so that you can go there at any time of the day.

2. Pure inspiration.

Of the most beautiful ideas that come to fruition are ideas that go beyond the ordinary. This setting is magnificent because the rooftop feels like a garden with fresh lawn. Dressed with funky furniture and a covered wooden floor, it feels cozy and inspiring. The view is undeniably spectacular too!

3. Urban paradise.

This rooftop is a haven which provides everything you need. It not only gives you extra room to move, it also acts as a separate Penthouse-space which can be enjoyed by guests and is perfect for moonlight parties.

4. Circular sessions.

Circular furniture always create a sense of closeness when it comes to being with family and friends. The area is surrounded by flowers and plants to increase the sense of warmth and joviality.

5. Rooftop wonders.

A rooftop is not complete without the existence of a table and chairs that are faced to look out at the view. This spot is perfect for relaxing in because it offers comfortable seating along with a wonderful deck which creates a space for relaxation and meditation.

6. Openness.

Using an awning that is transparent lets you enjoy the daylight hours and also creates a sense of expansiveness. The comfort on this rooftop is unmatched because it feels like you are indoors with all the benefits of being outdoors.

7. Luxury.

A rooftop area is not complete without a sense of elegance and by making the outdoors an extension of the style in your home, you create a sense of fluidity between your indoor and outdoor space. Think about the shape of your outdoor funiture and the overall design—the aim is to create a sense of pure comfort.

8. Theater in the round.

Poetic sessions are to be had on a rooftop like this which is allocated for romance. The setting is idyllic and the view is faultless.

9. Outside bar.

The presence of a rooftop bar on your very own rooftop is certainly something that will not want to make you venture far from your home for all your entertainment needs. Enjoying a gathering with some friends and family, you can create your own favorite spot!

10. Modern lights.

Lighting is very important with outdoor spaces and on this rooftop it is perfectly distributed to offer a sense of brightness and color. Sheer inspiration.

Grab a can of black spray paint and personalize your own minimalist black branch wreath in no time. (via Earnest Home Co.)

8 Picture Perfect Things To Do in Hua Hin

Amari Hua Hin’s Shoreline Beach Club

You got the beach poses down and the camels at Camel Republic have already been featured in your IG grid. Now, here are 8 more great pictures (and activities) in Hua Hin you probably haven’t tried yet.

Photo: Facebook / Vana Nava

Vana Nava Hua Hin is the latest attraction to float in. This enormous water park promises rides and thrills in a tropical jungle. There’s even a gigantic water fueled funnel that can fit the whole family. If you think a picture of you sliding down an epic, wet, rainforest trail is only a dream, think again.

Photo: Flickr / celebrityabc

The gentle falls and scenic pools at the Pala U Waterfall make the perfect Hua Hin day trip. Pack a lunch and sit on the rocks, or at least pose for some great pics. Remember to bring mosquito spray or better yet cover up in proper hiking gear – the rocks are sharp and those bugs are fierce. But it’s worth it to see the natural beauty, especially if you don’t mind some exercise getting there.

Spend an afternoon tasting local wine at Hua Hin Hills Winery. The screams of your angry boss will feel so far away when you’re standing in the wide open fields. And are those mountains?! The landscape is so inviting, you’ll have to capture it for all of FB to see. It’s a world away from Bangkok but with the occasional elephant passing through, this vineyard is distinctly Thai.

Speaking of Thainess, make a stop at the Hua Hin Railway Station on your long weekend getaway. The impressive Royal Waiting Room will bring you back to the 1920’s when the station was built. Dress like a Gatsby and really feel the part. Better yet, make some cash by charging other tourists to take photos with you.

The beautiful Mrigadayavan Palace is another Thai landmark that will give even the most jaded Bangkok tourist pause. It was built as a summer home for royalty in 1924. Located within the royal camp grounds and surrounded by gardens and greenery, it makes for a perfect family outing – your mother will have you posing with flowers for hours. This is another place to stick with long sleeves and pants, this time out of respect for the royal family.

The Cicada Market is Hua Hin’s newest element of hipster-fication. But we can’t complain. It’s a bustling outdoor market, set on a sprawling lawn with live music, bean bags and a generally chill atmosphere.

Change it up from 2016 hipster market to 1920s shopping fair at Plearn Wan Vintage Village. Half historic site, half retail bazaar, this unique market will make you nostalgic for Thailand’s bygone era. Food, clothing and even an old school apothecary will provide the perfect souvenirs for your Bangkok friends stuck at work.

The Shoreline Beach Club by day.

Picture perfect accommodation will complete your Hua Hin getaway. At Amari Hua Hin on Khao Takiab Beach, the beauty is in the details, from the lofty blue and white lobby, to the ocean style pool, lush green gardens and beautiful Shoreline Beach Club. Surround yourself in a picturesque setting, and have the best of Hua Hin on your doorstep.

Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade 2016

Each year, normally in December when the chances of rain are slight, this rally takes place between The Sofital Central Plaza, Bangkok and The Sofitel Central, Hua Hin.

Some 60 antique and classic cars make the 225km journey and after arriving in Hua Hin, rest up in town for the night before setting off on a parade around Hua Hin the next day that takes them to Klaikangwon Palace, via the railway station and back again.

This is quite a spectacle, reminiscent of The London to Brighton rally that takes place annually in the UK.

If you’re fond of old cars, then you are sure to appreciate the examples you will see, especially in such a foreign land. They are normally in pristine condition and include fine examples of E-Type Jaguars, Mercedes, Alfa Romeos, Fiats and many more.

Khao Hin Lek Fai (Flintstone Hill)

If you’re looking for some spectacular views of Hua Hin, you need search no further than Khao Hin Lek Fai (Flintstone Hill).

It is situated about 3km west of the town centre. Follow Chomsin Road over the railway line and instead of bearing right with the road to Pala U, keep going straight ahead. It’s a steep climb to the top, but worth it once you’re there.

There are 3-4 lookout spots and it’s a popular location with locals, especially at sundown which is arguably the best time to go. Try all the lookouts as they offer views in different directions, you can see as far south as Khao Takiab and beyond and north towards Cha-am.

If you’re feeling fit you can join the active crowd who make the daily trip to the top by running or cycling. However it is not for the feint hearted!

There are a few stalls selling food and drink and a bird centre that never seems to have many birds aside from the peacocks roaming around. A well laid out garden with many different species of shrubs, trees and bamboo, together with a statue of King Rama VII adds to the ambience of the location.
